Literacy

his includes skills of reading, writing and spelling. Literacy is important for education, working and communicating.

Early literacy intervention supports emergent literacy skills through shared reading, print awareness and letter-sound combinations. Reading and writing are skills that need to be explicitly taught. Systematic Phonics is a structured, step-by-step method for teaching reading and spelling. It follows a logical and planned sequence.

Literacy difficulties can include:

  • Difficulty with letter-sound correspondences
  • Difficulty with written letter formation
  • Difficulty with oral language skills.

Dyslexia is commonly associated with literacy difficulties. Dyslexia is a specific learning disorder that is neurological in origin. It often involves difficulties with reading and spelling.
