Communication Device Assessment
The process of obtaining a communication device can be overwhelming. At Speak With Us we try to make this process as fun and supportive as possible, helping you find the device that best supports your needs and your style of communication.
Finding the right communication device
There is no 'one size fits all' when it comes to communication, thus it is best to always trial at least 2 different communication devices. Our clinician will support you in obtaining the best communication device that supports your needs and supports your style of communication.

How the communication device process works
Step 1: Communication assessment
Completion of a formal communication assessment (1 hour, in-clinic or in the community).
Step 2: Communication report
Completion of a formal communication report (3 hours).
Step 3: Trial device applications
Completion of applications to obtain trial communication devices (30 minutes).
Step 4: Trial of device A*
Hands-on trial of the first communication device (2 hours).
Step 5: Trial of device B*
Hands-on trial of the second communication device (2 hours).
Step 6: Discussion of trial outcomes
Discussion of trial outcomes (30 minutes). This can be in person, online or by telephone.
Step 7: Device NDIS application report
Completion of the device NDIS application report (6 hours).
Step 8: Device set up (optional)
Support to set up your chosen device, available if you would like it.
Step 9: Device mentoring (optional)
Ongoing mentoring with your device, available if you would like it.
Cost and time commitment
Cost: approximate total communication device process hours: 16 hours, at the rate of $193.99 per hour.
*Device trials may be delayed secondary to device availability. **Hours may change due to client complexity. Please note these hours do not include travel.
