What happens in an initial assessment?

In the initial assessment the therapist obtains a thorough case history about the client, and commences formal or informal assessment, depending on the client's individual needs.

An initial assessment report will then be written and is charged per hour of report writing time (usually between 1-3 hours, dependent on complexity). However, if a speech pathology report has been completed in the last 6-12 months, a report may not be required. This can be further discussed with your therapist. Report turnaround is typically between 2-4 weeks.

How long are therapy sessions?
Initial assessment sessions are 60 minutes in duration and then subsequent/ongoing therapy sessions are 45 minutes + 15 minutes note writing. In the initial assessment your therapist will obtain a thorough case history from you, and commence formal or informal assessment with you or your child.
How many therapy sessions will my child need?
The number of therapy sessions an individual requires varies. Some individuals may require 5-20 sessions, whilst others may require ongoing sessions for an extended period of time.
